Ruby – The Grandmaster of Grazing
Moo’dy Beauties Series
10x10" Acrylic on MDF Panel
Ruby is a master of stillness. A cow of conviction. A slow-moving oracle who treats each decision - whether to graze, to turn, or to blink - as a matter of universal consequence.
While others bustle about the paddock in pursuit of prime grass, Ruby holds her ground. Not because she’s lazy, but because she’s contemplating. Every blade of grass is subject to scrutiny. Every step is a dissertation. Ruby does not simply graze - she meditates with her mouth full.
She is the herd’s unspoken timekeeper. When Ruby pauses, time itself seems to stretch. The morning may turn to noon, and the others may have come and gone, but Ruby remains - still, steadfast and steeped in deliberation.
Her process includes:
A prolonged stare into the distance (possibly at nothing)
The occasional shift in weight, just to keep everyone guessing
Mid-chew halts to question the meaning of everything
Strategic gate-blocking that could qualify as performance art
This is not loafing. This is deliberate existence.
Ruby is unmoved by urgency. The clatter of a feed bucket? Interesting, but not persuasive. The farmer’s requests? A suggestion at best. And should anyone attempt to redirect her, she’ll fix them with a slow, heavy-lidded gaze that says, “You may go. I shall remain.”
This portrait captures her in peak philosophical posture - head high, gaze locked, thoughts unknown. She may move. Or she may not. That’s entirely her decision. Eventually.
Ruby reminds us that haste is overrated, presence is power and sometimes the greatest act of rebellion… is standing completely still.
Dream it, Paint it!
