Clara does not suffer fools. Or bland snacks. Or seed bowls with subpar composition. A short-billed corella with a flair for drama and a voice that could rattle windowpanes, Clara is a bird of both intellect and intensity. She’s not here to make friends - unless you’re interesting - and she certainly didn’t ask for sunflower seeds three days in a row.
Clara sees everything. And she has thoughts. From your sock choices to your breakfast cereal, nothing escapes her steely blue gaze. She doesn’t just watch the world - she audits it. And when the mood strikes (which it frequently does), she delivers feedback the only way she knows how: with a sudden, spine-tingling squawk that could wake the dead and startle a passing postie.

Judging passers-by with a slow head tilt and narrowed eye
Reordering her seed mix by texture and colour gradient
Shredding only the corners of your most important paperwork
Mimicking your phone ringtone, but louder and in a much more inconvenient key
She is, of course, deeply intelligent - more so than most people she meets - and has the mimicry skills to prove it. Clara doesn’t just copy. She curates. Full phrases, sound effects and passive-aggressive laughter are all part of her repertoire. She’s the kind of bird who’ll master your voice, then use it to ask for more treats from someone else.
This portrait captures Clara in her full feathery majesty - bright-eyed, sharp-beaked and entirely unamused by whatever nonsense you were just about to say. The floral background does nothing to soften her authority. If anything, she allowed it, but would have preferred gum blossoms.
Clara is loud. Clara is proud. And Clara is always right.
