Ruben - The Zoomie Tornado
Part of the “Canine Companions” Series
8x8" Acrylic on MDF Panel
Ruben is not a pet. Ruben is a phenomenon.
Part dachshund, part rocket-fuelled blur, he lives his life at maximum velocity. While other dogs walk, trot or occasionally gallop, Ruben exists in only two states: statue-still and interdimensional blur. No one knows what triggers the transition - perhaps a breeze, a floorboard creak, or simply the mood striking just right. But when it happens, hold onto your slippers and brace the furniture.
His signature move? The full-home speed circuit known as The Zoom Zone™ - a performance of such intensity it could power a small village. It begins with a dilated stare. A twitch. A subtle lift of the rear paw. Then - activation. Ruben explodes into motion, banking off walls like a furry pinball, defying logic and occasionally causing minor interior redesigns. Lamps have fallen. Rugs have migrated. Grown adults have leapt aside.
The Four Sacred Phases of the Ruben Zoomie:
Sudden Activation - From stillness to full throttle in 0.02 seconds. No warning. No mercy.
Absolute Chaos™ - Furniture is dodged, launched from, or completely ignored. Humans are startled. Physics is rewritten.
The Snack Pitstop - Momentary pause for edible fuel. Treats disappear. Velocity increases. Regret ensues.
The Dramatic Collapse - Limbs splayed. Tongue out. A nap that resembles a tiny crime scene. But it’s only temporary.
This portrait captures Ruben in the mere suggestion of stillness - eyes alive with possibility, body coiled in case another burst of movement is needed at a moment’s notice. The floral backdrop offers a gentle contrast to the whirlwind he truly is, like a doily beneath a firecracker.
Ruben reminds us that life is short, walls are optional, and joy sometimes looks like a blur tearing through your lounge room.
Dream it, Paint it!
