Fergus – Master of the Dramatic Flop
Part of the “Fluff & Florals” Series
8x8" Acrylic on MDF Panel
Fergus is not just a dog. Fergus is an experience.
He doesn’t simply enter a room - he arrives, like a misunderstood poet in the final act of a play no one else is watching. With soulful eyes and limbs that defy the laws of lounging, Fergus is a creature of extremes. One moment he’s a whirlwind of giddy energy, zooming in chaotic circles with ears flapping like banners of joy. The next? A complete, unannounced collapse - limbs akimbo, head heavy with imagined sorrow, and a sigh so deep it could shift tectonic plates.
This signature move, known in the household as the Dramatic Flop™, is a full-body event. It is not subtle. It is not quiet. It is a declaration: “I have given you my everything… now bring cheese.”
His preferred surfaces for flopping include:
Sunlit rugs with artistic potential
Cool kitchen tiles for extra thud
Any spot you were just about to sit in
And while others may nap peacefully, Fergus naps like a martyr - limbs spilling over cushion edges, one eye half open in case anyone stops paying attention, and an occasional whimper for dramatic effect.
But don’t be fooled by the theatrics. Beneath the flops and flurries lies a tender heart that craves connection, validation and treats hand-delivered with the reverence he believes he deserves. He is equal parts thespian and softie, high maintenance and high reward.
This portrait captures the essence of Fergus in mid-mood - full of presence, full of feeling, and full of floof. His story isn’t one of still life—it’s performance art, told in naps and snacks.
Fergus reminds us all that sometimes, the best way to be noticed… is to dramatically collapse in the centre of the room and sigh until someone brings a biscuit.
Dream it, Paint it!
